TWC 301: Fundamentals of Writing Ignite Talk Submission

Date

Fall 2024

The work:

There are many tools for presentations, but they are not necessarily designed to use together as well as the device type can also make a difference in the functionality. The use of multiple tools and devices forced me to have a well-rounded approach to this project. This multitude of tools included using Mac OS and Android as operating systems, which do not always communicate well. This in this particular project also using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, Adobe Premier Pro, YouTube and various screen recording software across both operating systems, but it was difficult at times to use a format that preserved the full value of the other system. Converting certain files to PDF or Jpeg allowed flow between all the above-mentioned tools on multiple operating systems and the loss of data or quality was mitigated as much as possible this way. This also had a certain about of trail and error. There is unfortunately no synchronization as changes made would need to be worked up into the final production. So, if an audio didn’t quite fit during editing or it needed to be repaired it might require going back and forth between the programs to ensure the best version is created. The programs used most effectively:

YouTube
A Video media broadcasting tool. They have a large number of users and mostly can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Allows for many metrics to be tracked to be able to measure effectiveness and reach of uploaded media.

Excel
A spreadsheet program developed by Microsoft is designed to organize, calculate, and format data. An exceptional tool in developing large data sets into various formats for clearer analysis and translation.

Premiere Pro
Video production software developed by Adobe developed for professional and intermediate use. Used in various fields including professional video production. Users can upload images, audio, and video files to complete edits to create sequences or videos which can be export to standard files such a MP4. This tool is very complicated and is designed to be used with the other software within the Adobe creative Cloud. There are basic principles, but following the tutorial and watching videos is highly recommended to learn how to use the various features.
